Gustav

filed under: Stuff to worry about

We were vacationing at my folks' place (as we are now) but even so, I'm amazed, looking back at my August 2005 archives, that I had nothing to say in advance of Katrina, since Hurricane-watching is one of my big online pastimes each summer, and I watched in horrified amazement as she dropped in pressure and built in intensity.

Today Hurricane Gustav is doing the same, just in time for his landing on Western Cuba. He's blown up to a Cat 4 storm with 145mph winds. Worse, his track currently puts his eventual landfall (an only semi-reliable best guess) just West of New Orleans, meaning the city would be in the way of the strongest winds in the NE quadrant, along with 20'+ storm surge. Today he has juked to the East, which would bring him closer to NOLA and would be unbelievably bad news.

This is the place to find out more about it, especially Dr. Jeff Master's blog (link on that page).

Thoughts and prayers for Cuba and the Gulf Coast. The storm still has to pass over some cooler water before making it to land, and it may bounce farther West, so this isn't a done deal, but New Orleans is evacuating. Tomorrow morning, all highways will be outbound.

What do you think the "god hates fags" people are doing right now?
Are they near to shaking with fevered anticipation that some poor people might die so that they might go protest at their funerals?
cuz God sends the weather to punish the sodomites, and then sends the idiots to Kinko's to pick up their signs.

Hey p-net do we need to remind you that there is an election going on? In fact, there was even a convention last week where your man Obama accepted the nomination! Plus a Republican VP pick who I hear is a little controversial... But instead we get a trickle of crap posts about a cat 2 hurricane and some man's car getting hit by a train? What is this, CBS-2 News at 11? Where's the anger, the fire, the humor that made me bookmark your site in the first place!
I'm giving you one week to get your act together or I'm replacing your bookmark with Defective Yeti.

Dude I just got schooled by somebody I know from Say What Karaoke. Weak.

ALL RIGHT. FINE. I'LL WRITE SOME POLITICAL POSTS.

But if it's a fistfight, Matthew Baldwin at Defective Yeti will kick my ass every time.

Yo, RJ, are you guys in the path of Hanna? 'Cause Gustav is already old news...

Yesh, what a messy hurricane season already...

We're home, which means YES, we're in the course of Hanna. What a kick in the pants. Very real chance of Tropical Storm winds in NYC this weekend. Whee!

I just saw Hanna's path. A total sideswipe...but then gone. I'm hoping Sunday will be clear. I have a couple of good friends getting married in the park on Sunday...
