A fairly typical "News of the Weird" type story caught my eye (you get desperate for mental stimulation when you've been at work for most of 12 hours): "PA Man Watches Helplessly As Train Squashes Truck."
The story is totally straightforward: a man followed a tip on a good fishing spot down a road clearly marked "Road Closed" in a state park, got stranded on the train tracks, and had to stand back and watch a train cream his truck.
"I backed up a little bit and watched the show," he said. "It looked just like TV but louder."Signs clearly stated the road was closed, but Miller said he decided to "give it a shot" after hearing about the fishing spot.
What got my attention, and my sympathy, was the guy's take on it. Everyone's been the goat, the boob, the ninny, the f*ckup at some point. There's that awful moment where you realize it's happened, and there's no way to get around it, and you just have to stand into it.
Nathan Miller has clearly recognized that he's at that point:
"I was an idiot," Miller said. "Pretty much a local idiot just trying to go fishing."
Seriously, I can't help it, my heart goes out to this guy.
