And there she is. She's been christened "Io" - I'm not sure why. When Lisa asked me "what's her name" that was what came out. And it goes nicely with Lisa's iBook's name, which is Imogen.
It's very strange to actually own something that you've been obsessing about for five or six months.
More pictures after the jump - apparently, I'm one of the very early recipients of the new PowerBook, so there's been some interest on the Apple forums (primarily AppleNova at ThinkSecret - a great resource for Mac info). Those of you with no interest in computers... move along, there's nothing to see here.

Yes, yes, we name our computers. We're weird that way. We name our cars, too. I think once we spend over $1k on something, we want to feel like it's a member of the family...
And finally, a full-sized screenshot (this is 1440x960 and about .5MB, so it's really only for those who HAVE to know what the screen real estate is like).
dude, what options did you get? i got 15-inch with the 100GB 7,200RPM and just 512MB RAM.
Posted by: j at October 21, 2005 11:49 AMI got nothing - bone stock. I'm going to add at least 1GB of RAM (there's been some back-and-forth at AN about whether you can do 1.5GB RAM or whether you should pair them (2x512 or 2x1GB)). I'm hoping to save maxing her to 2GB out for a later bump-up.
Posted by: rjt at October 21, 2005 11:56 AMEnjoy the new baby!! She is quite beautiful. I am thinking of having one myself.
I highly recommend it, Mrs. L. Would you be looking at a PB?
Posted by: rjt at October 21, 2005 12:47 PMI love the imac we have now but our latest problem is too many people and not enough computer. I was ok sharing with Lawbot but now Little Miss and Little Man want to be on the computer. Too many people not enough imac. At least with the PB I could hide in my room with a wireless connection...
Maybe if Lawbot reads this he will get some ideas but sadly I think the PB would be out of my hands as soon as it hit the house, especially if he can play WOW anywhere in the house.
Posted by: mrslawbot at October 21, 2005 02:05 PMRight? That is the worry.
If you didn't need too much firepower, the iBook 12" can be had, refurbished, for $699. Which is a screaming deal. It's the 1.2ghz G4, and only comes with 256MB RAM, but you can get a 512MB upgrade online for like $60.
Actually, I think that may not have Airport installed, so nemmind... but the new iBooks are $999 without the edu discount.
LawBot! Get yr wife something nice! ;)
Posted by: rjt at October 21, 2005 02:22 PMMrs. Lawbot's concerns are, in fact and as usual, completely substantiated and right on the money. I would indeed rarely leave my room if I could play WOW via wireless internet connection. However, that state of affairs strikes me as, to use the vernacular, "a screamingly bad idea".
So...I believe a new PB is in order, one which will allow my wife to indulge her passion for digital photography without fear that her husband's WOW addiction will continue to force her off the computer, and I will content myself with playing WOW after the children are asleep, on our beloved imac.
