"Dubya" in the Times

"Dear Dubya: Patriotic Love Letters to Whitehouse.org" gets a friendly review in the Times today, complete with the above picture. This is my fourth Times review, but my first photo credit! Huzzah! Carol Rosegg, your days are numbered!

Here's the review, though if you're not registered for the Times you'll have to register to read it.

Here's the excerpt I would print if I were a movie studio:

"A successful parody! A… triumph! Revealing! Giv(es) these… cheery dimwits and taunting rednecks… human shape and voice! The best! Beatific! Our shocked laughter bubble(s) up! Stunning!"

See how easy that is! And just like that, a friendly review becomes a RAVE!

Devore (who is producing "Dear Dubya") and I had a running joke that we were going to take his by-line from an NYT column ("John Devore is a playwright and webmaster working in Manhattan") and an excerpt from a review of My Special Friend ("...ably directed by R.J. Tolan") and print business cards that read, respectively:

"John Devore is a playwright!" - NY Times

and

R.J. Tolan is "abl(e)"! - NY Times

Oh, and because I had neglected to mention it before, yes Dear Dubya is running again, last week and for the next two weeks. It's slightly tweaked, with some extra tech and a couple new emails. It's a pretty darn good time, come check it out if you get a chance. (And The Brick has a new 36,000 btu air conditioner which kicks ass.)

UPDATE: The Washington Post's blog picked up on the Times review, and blurbs it and the show. Huzzah!

(And an archival link to our great - and startlingly well-written - NYTheatre.com review...)

Congratulations! Your movie-ad version of the review is "stunning!" "Fabulous!" "Splendid!" And you have to leave out so little of the text.

Hurray for your fourth Times review!

And--for the people who are going to see Dear Dubya--hurray for the air conditioner.

Dale is, indeed, a treat - and he's truly excellent in this (as he was in Opelika).
