Dan Rather is Hosed Off

filed under: Idle Chatter

So I spent last week getting a show open, and didn't post. Which meant that the top article all week was my now woefully out of date celebration of Dan Rather's cantankerousness.

I can't help it - I've had a soft spot for the guy ever since he descended into meaningless pseudo-aphorisms somewhere around 3 a.m. on election night 2000 ("Well folks, as the saying goes, this dog is hunting somewhere in the woods, but there is a lot of moss on the trees..."). Seriously, he sounded like Ross Perot after a bender. It perfectly reflected the state of any rational mind that night.

But, of course, in the intervening week it has become fairly clear that CBS got duped. It was formalized today when all involved apologized for running the story, or at least the questionable documents.

The problem, of course, is that this goes a long way to discrediting the entire Bush/National Guard story, despite the fact that the fraudulent documents pretty clearly framed a guilty man. Sigh.

"What forest? All I see is a lot of trees!"

If you haven't already, you might want to read: Wirearchy's post listing some of the facts that are being obscured by the CBS/Rather flap. I didn't read the Salon article he mentions, but I sure would like to see the news folks pick up on these things to investigate and report. http://blog.wirearchy.com/blog/_archives/2004/9/20/145326.html
