Kerry/Raines '04 - JFK and FDR
filed under: Hey, What's The Big IdeaJesus, this is one fast-moving meme. It first really hit last night, I think, on the Daily Kos comments, after Paul Begala floated it on the air some time very recently (don't remember exactly where).
Anyway, for those that don't know anything about Franklin Delano Raines, go read this at Kos (and there's LOTS more where that came from, including some hilarious speculation that the Kerry campaign is using the Daily Kos message boards to float a test balloon for Raines...)

-African-American Rhodes Scholar, Harvard cum laude J.D.
-CEO of Fannie Mae, one of the most successful corporations in America (even if I do secretly believe they will soon, with Freddie Mac, trigger a new Depression)
-Served under Clinton as head of the Office of Management and Budget, and was the first in such position to preside over a balanced budget (took over from Leon Panetta).
Plus, there's that damn catchy JFK/FDR thing.
Of course, I've never seen the guy speak, and neither have most people talking about him over at Kos. So that's a big question mark, as public demeanor is one of my most critical qualifications for supporting a Veep candidate.
But if you like this kind of speculation, this one is moving like lightning. Jump on board early.
