The $1 Mac Junior at McDonald's has officially been knocked from its long-standing perch at the top of my list of greatest NYC cheap-eats bargains. Which is a damn good thing, because they were starting to make me feel a little bit dead.
Enter: the Pluck U chicken sandwich.

Sitting at McCoy's Pub at 9th/52nd last week, our usual haunt after Youngblood meetings, we were suddenly assailed by delicious Buffalo Wing aroma. My fellow co-Artistic Director, J. (no, we're not allowed any vowels in our names) and I were gripped with foodlust and ordered 30 from the Pluck U branch next door. They were wonderful.
Last night, there was no broad-based support for wings, so I went with the chicken sandwich instead. I think they must fry it in opium, because I've been thinking about it since. Crispy, juicy, hot, with a soft bun and LOTS of pickle, and mayo, like a chicken sandwich should be (go on, disagree, I'll fight you). Best of all, the damn thing is only $3.45. I added $0.25 for a side of hot buffalo sauce, and still had a piping hot delicious meal for less than four bones.
They have branches at: 2nd Ave/35th Street; 9th Ave bet. 51/52; 3rd Ave bet. 10/11; and the one that will get me in trouble 'cause it's near work: Nassau bet. Beekman/Ann.
So. Good.
