For frustrated New Yorkers, to make you... um, well... more frustrated. Sorry about that. Now we can quantify exactly how much easier it would be, financially, to live almost anywhere else. Try this Cost of Living Calculator.
Or, if you're not a New Yorker, see how much you'd have to make to become one...
It's really kind of cool - you plug in two cities and it breaks down all the various costs and shows you how they compare to each other and the national average on housing, health, education, taxes, etc.
I discovered to my dismay that, to maintain our current standard of living in, say, Cincinnati, we'd need to *jointly* make 28% less than I am currently making individually. Of course, I'll betcha they pay legal secretaries way less in Cincy. And before you say "yeah, but you'd be living in Cincinnati" I want to point out that Cincy is actually a very nice town. So, you know, don't be hatin'.
Baby, if you've ever wondered...
Strangely, it's way more expensive to live in Anchorage, AK than in Chapel Hill, NC. Who'd'a thunk.
